CNN:
Google continues to impress everyone with new innovations. and for now, it's preparing air balloons which can broadcast Wi-Fi signals.
This new project, which been named 'Loon Project', will give acces to the internet for people who aren't able to reach the communication towers.
Google pointed out that the balloons will be launched from southern New Zealand this month in an experimental tour to cover floating around in the stratosphere at an altitude of up to more than 18 thousand square meters which is twice the height at which the aircraft flying.
Each balloon provides coverage of the Internet along the circle with a diameter of 40 kilometers, and everyone who wants to acquire the free service must have a signal reception antenna to recept the signal from the baloon according to a Google site.
The solar-powered balloons can be remotely controlled, and can push her down, and recycling Alpulecaalan, a substance which they are made from.
This initiative comes from the company to provide people living in remote areas to the Internet, which the company estimates accounted for up to two-thirds of the world's population, in a move the company indicated that it "will make a big difference."
About the project:
STUDY OF THE LOON TERRITORYTwenty years of loon research in northern Wisconsin has taught us much about territorial behavior. We can now answer a variety questions about loon territories and breeding behavior, like “Do loons mate for life?”, “How does a loon find a breeding territory?”, and “Who decides where the nest goes?”. Look under “Findings” (using the drop down menu) for answers to these and other burning questions. You can also look at our scientific research papers.STUDY OF THE LOON POPULATIONWe are able to monitor the loon population in northern Wisconsin using our large sample of marked individuals. In fact, we have measured both adult and juvenile survival. Look under “Findings” > “How healthy is the loon population in northern Wisconsin?” for more information and copies of our published papers on these topics.UPDATES FROM THE LOON PROJECT: THE LP BLOGOne purpose of this site is to share recent findings, activities and accomplishments with folks who are interested. Check out “LP Blog” for the most up-to-date information. If you are really gung ho, sign up to “follow” the blog and receive an e-mail each time I add a new post. During the breeding season (May to August), I provide frequent updates of what we are seeing in the field — nests, chicks, territorial battles and so forth. At all times of year, I will let you know about papers that we are publishing and presentations we have made.LOON VIDEO!We make available here video that shows what our leg-banded loons look like (under “Why Band Loons?”). In addition, if you look under “Findings” > “How does a loon acquire a territory?”, you can watch a couple of vicious battles between loons for ownership of a territory.LONG-TERM DATAAn important goal of this website is to share data from our longitudinal study of loons that began in 1993. Under “Data”, you will find information on territorial status of our marked study animals. These data show how many years individual loons and pairs have stayed on their territories. As you will see, adults tend to return to their territories each year….but sometimes do not. You will also find reproductive data that tells how many chicks adult loons produced each year.WHO WE AREThe project is directed by Walter Piper of Chapman University in Orange, California. But I have had academic assistance from numerous collaborators over the years, help from a huge and tireless staff of field assistants, and support from many lake residents, who let us view loons on their lakes. To find out more about the people on the study, look under “People”.FUNDINGWe are grateful to have received funding for our loon study from a number of sources, especially the National Science Foundation
